Girl Interrupted by Susanna Kaysen

This quarter I read the novel, Girl Interrupted, by Susanna Kaysen. This novel details the story of a girl (Susanna herself) who lives in an psychiatric hospital with many other girls. It includes her story as well as others. The book bounces back and forth with explanations of how each girl got there, where they want to go, and what their time in the hospital is like. The book includes experiences that some people can't imagine having or can't imagine dealing with, yet these girls deal with it every day. Throughout the book, Susanna seems like a perfectly normal girl with no mental issues, yet there are moments when it seems as though there is something wrong. For example, one day she is sitting and looking at her arm and thinks that she has no bone. She starts picking at her skin and scratching her hands so that she can find the bone in her arm, scared that she doesn't have one. This book was very interesting but hard to get into. I would recommend it to anybody who is interested in books that are out of the ordinary.
